The Journey of Lesra
Martin Documentary, Canada,
2002, 45 min Director: Cheryl Foggo
Lesra Martin
was a child, struggling on the violent streets of Brooklyn, when
a fortuitous encounter led him to a new life in Canada. After going
to law school, he helped to bring justice to wrongfully imprisoned
American boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, and became
a hero. This inspiring film delves into the intensely personal story
beneath the fame through intimate interviews with Lesra’s
friends and family.
Kosovo: A Fragile Peace Documentary,
Canada, 2002, 53 min Director: Moira Simpson
What
happens in a war-ravaged land like Kosovo after the fighting has
stopped and the world has moved on to the next conflict? This documentary
offers a rare glimpse into the frontlines of an international peacebuilding
mission. Struggling to create conditions where democracy can survive,
Canadian lawyer Carolyn McCool is trying to build bridges between
Kosovo Albanians and Serbs. Her 20-year-old daughter Kate travels
with a musical Roadshow to generate grassroots support among Albanian
and Serb youth in Kosovo’s first free central election.
