Sound & Light Effects Workshop
Documentary
filmmaker Eric Becker will enlighten you about
the uses of lighting and sound effects, and demonstrate how they
play a crucial role in creating mood and have a dramatic effect
on the viewer.
Pitching a TV Series
Have you got an idea
for the next "Seinfeld?" Script writer Patti Fraser
will help you develop an imaginative story idea and then you can
try to sell it.
Weird and Wonderful Archival Footage CBC
film archivist Colin Preston will screen an eclectic
mixture of the good, the bad and the hilarious.
Considering a Career in Television?
Gary Morgan, Post-Production Audio
Engineer at CBC-TV will talk about how he got into the television
industry.
Stereotyped Images on the Big Screen
Morey Altman of the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival
will use films clips to explore the roots of media stereotyping.
Students will have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts on
ethnic and racial misrepresentation.
Jury Notes
Don’t miss this opportunity to see the best student videos
submitted to this year’s Reel to Real. Stuart Poyntz,
Education Director of the Pacific Cinémathèque, will
offer a careful critique of what works and what can be improved.

Celebrity snakes, lizards and
amphibians will be onsite with their showbiz menagerie.

Training

by the VFS.
Foley Sound
Ever wonder how sounds are
created in films? Learn about the art of making sound effects after
the film is shot.
Pitching a TV Series Have you got an idea

Special F/X Make-up (Not face painting!)—Get
made up with scars, bruises, and tattoos. Watch how make-up artists
work their magic on a willing victim.
Video production
Practice video camera
techniques and learn about the production process with local independent
filmmaker Patrick Harrison.
Making Drama Real
Director
Cliff Skelton will talk about making
social issue dramatic films for youth. He will sow you how a drama
develops using examples from his current film in production - Truth
and Betrayal. A co-production of Still Water Pictures Inc.
and National Film Board of Canada.
Instant Animation
The award-winning
director, Dennis Jackson, will help
you get animated in this hands-on workshop. He will focus on the
creation of characters and telling a story, using backgrounds from
his own work, Christmas at Wapos Bay.
