Hockey, hip hop, hunting and midnight Ski-Doo rides. Welcome to Inukjuak. It’s the final year of high school for eight teens in this remote town in northern Quebec who document this pivotal year of their lives, and address a broad range of issues, from the communication gap with their elders, to the loss of their peers to suicide. Throughout, they reveal an unusual mix of southern and northern cultures. Inuuvunga paints a rich portrait of coming of age in an Inuit town, where hope and strength overcome struggle.

Ce film donne un portrait d’Emily Carr, peintre et écrivain canadienne, au début du XXème siècle. Elle etait féministe dans l’âme, écologiste, iconoclaste, et rebelle. Dans ce documentaire moderne et dynamique, on a les commentaires des invités, et les virgules biographiques apposées par des enfants. Nous voyageons dans son univers mystique rappelant les cieux tourbillonnants de ses peintures.

This visually stunning documentary is about the Canadian West Coast artist and writer at the beginning of the 20th century. She was a feminist in spirit, an ecologist before her time, an iconoclast, and rebel. This film combines Carr’s poetry and paintings with comments from leading art historians, and questions from children who love her work. It is a portrait inspired by the swirling skies of her paintings.

This is a wonderful animated story of Japan in 1865. Nitaboh has had a hard life: he was orphaned at an early age, and an illness takes his sight when he is eight-years-old. He is nonetheless a gifted musician and decides to devote his life to the shamisen (Japanese luth). The film tells his story and his fight to survive by his art.

Seventeen-year-old Henrik lives in an ideal family with two loving parents, and his younger siblings Oliver and Johanna. When his mother suddenly dies of cancer, Henrik’s world becomes empty and insufferable. His father tries the best he can to take care of the children, but he can’t make ends meet and starts drinking again. Henrik finds himself taking on important responsibilities when the child welfare authorities threaten to place them in different foster homes. This is a strong film about family bonds told with the steady direction of Iranian-born director, Reza Bagher, and is based on the novel of Max Lundgren.

Sara lives with her mother and grandfather. She is searching for her father who she only knows from a faded photo. Victor, a new classmate, has a beautiful chess board. To help Sara overcome her doubts about learning to play such a difficult game, Victor tells her a story about a fairy-tale Queen who lives in a palace with a black and white floor. The Queen invents a game for the bored King to prevent him from going to war. Sara joins the Queen in her palace where she learns the rules of the game. This wonderful film has won numerous awards worldwide.

He assembles a motley crew to help him commandeer a ship and pursue the treasure of the legendary Black Mor.

This rousing seafaring adventure is beautifully shot by one of the world’s pre-eminent animation artists, and is accompanied by one of the best film scores in years. The film includes one scene of brief nudity.

Kid, un astucieux gamin de 15 ans, passe son temps à écouter les histoires du pirate Black Mór. Inspiré par son héros, il s’échappe de cette prison qu’est l’orphelinat, armé seulement de sa carte de pirate et de son insouciante détermination. Polleke, an eleven-year-old girl, is in love with Mimoen, a Moroccan boy who lives in the flat across the courtyard. Unfortunately, his parents force him to stop seeing her because they don't have the same cultural background. While Polleke copes with her sadness at her grandparents farm, her mother falls in love with her schoolteacher. In the meantime Polleke's father --Spiek-- once a free spirit and optimist, gradually becomes a homeless junkie. This prize-winning film, based on the best-selling novel by Gus Kuijer, is a story of differences, cultural clashes, discrimination, and optimism.

**Mature content. Contains occasional strong language and drug references.
