100% Woman
Director: Karen Duthie
Canada, 2004, 59 minutes
Michelle Dumaresq is one of B.C.'s top competitive downhill mountain bike racers. So why is there an effort afoot to oust her from the competition? Since Michelle used to be Michael, several of her competitors think that gives her an unfair advantage. The film follows Michelle from the 2002 B.C. Cup to the World Championships, where reactions range from support to talk of a boycott. Michelle's grace, humour and passion for racing hold steadfast in the face of lost friendships and an outspoken opposition to her presence in the competition. This is a thought-provoking film about what it means to be a "real" woman in the world of competitive sports. Karen Duthie (Director), Cari Green (Executive Producer), and Moira Simpson (Camera) are scheduled to be in attendance.

Weird Sex and Snowshoes: A Trek Through the Canadian Cinematic Psyche
Director: Jill Sharpe
Canada, 2004, 59 minutes
18A - Sexually suggestive scenes and nudity
This fresh, fast-paced, funny documentary is based loosely on Vancouver Sun film critic Katherine Monk's acclaimed book. It is composed of a smorgasbord of film clips, and interviews by some of Canada's most celebrated filmmakers, including: Atom Egoyan, Robert Lepage, Patricia Rozema, Denys Arcand, Zacharias Kunuk, Denis Villeneuve, Lynne Stopkewich, Clement Virgo, and others. Certain defining characteristics of Canadian film do emerge: a fascination with the outsider, exiled by Canada's enormous geography, cultural differences, internal demons; the everyday and ordinary made by turns poignant, bizarre and even mystical; a willingness to take artistic risks; a style that borrows heavily from both documentary and theatre; absurdist humour; and it goes without saying, the ever-present influence and reaction against the behemoth to the south, the USA.
